Gruppo Falcione signs a 1bn Euro agreement with the Albanian Government for an onshore LNG regasification terminal near Levan
At the presence of the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and of the Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha, Gruppo Falcione has signed in Tirana on December 2nd, 2008 a permit agreement with the Albanian government for the construction and operation of an onshore LNG regasification terminal near Levan in the south of the country.
The project, worth 1 bn euro, is the biggest ever planned in Albania by a foreign investor and foresees the construction of an LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) terminal of 8 billion cubic meters/year (bcm/yr) that can be increased to 12 bcm/yr (Italian annual consumption is about 83 bcm).
The regasified gas will be partially shipped to Italy via a dedicated subsea pipeline from Albania to Italy (area of Brindisi) and partially used for Albanian internal consumption.
To this purpose the Albanian government has the right to request a capacity expansion in case of increase of domestic needs. In a second stage, the terminal will be interconnected via pipeline to other Balkan countries. CONTINUE
